Australian Dairy Cattle Exports

Australia is one of the largest exporters of dairy cattle and regularly supplies to countries such as China, the Russian Federation, Turkey, the Philippines, Pakistan, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. The value of Australian Dairy Cattle Exports in 2011 is expected to exceed AUD $100 million.

Australian Dairy Cattle Exports range from the world renowned Holstein that is at the forefront of milk production, to a mixture of other breeds and crossbreds such as the Holstein / Jersey cross that is noted for its ability to produce well under a wide variety of climatic conditions.

The Australian Friesian Sahiwal (AFS) is an Australian breed of dairy cattle whose development commenced in the 1960's by the Queensland Government. It is a combination of the Sahiwal, a dairy breed of Bos Indicus from Pakistan and Holstein (Bos Taurus) breeds, designed for the tropical regions of Australia. Cows produce approximately 3,000kg of milk per lactation under tropical pasture conditions with a high resistance to heat, humidity, ticks and other parasites.

The AFS breed has now been successfully exported to many tropical countries of South East Asia such as the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam as well as Central and South America and the Indian Sub-Continent.
